Why Safron is so against Indo-US nuclear deal

Its a lot of fun for everyone watching the great Indian political drama. Being the worlds largest democracy the drama is also seems like the greatest ever run.. Though the drama is more about the so called 'honeymoon' between left and congress there is a third party aggressively involved just like pati,patni aur Oh!!!!
BJP considered to have a political advantage over congress especially in middle class is creating a lot of cacophony against this deal which most of the urban middle class people endorse. What would be the reason behind this?
If we look back in to past decade, BJP government did perform better in the past and in fact campaigned solely on India shining concept. Relations with US started going in a positive direction in their reign only..In fact their policies are more right and distant from "left" than congress. It is interesting to see a party changing its poles from communal to communist...
The deal might be very much helpful to the energy starving India. But it doesn't matter to a political party as long as it does not bring them votes..after all credit goes to the ruling party..so opposition is showing their opposition...
The deal was once opposed by Kakodkar is embraced by the same person when US conceded to the Indian demands. I really don't think we can get any better deal than this..How much it is justifiable to reject a deal solely for the purposes that we are going too close to US..That too this foul cry is being made by those political parties which are more skillful in changing colors than a chameleon...
The reason behind the BJP's strong opposition to deal i guess are

• They want to show to the people that coalition govts can only be run by NDA, if they get an opportunity to collapse the govt for any reason they will do so. As close relations with US will effect Communists, they want to align with them and make sure that govt falls to it. Even if the policy is very close to heart and help India in attaining energy security.
• They want to flush their continuous electoral debacles from public mind, so they are raising a concern in nuclear deal. they lost the UP elections wherein their party president is from UP and also they brought in kalyan sing whom they have once expelled. They fought a dirty presidential election and lost it. They didn't even agreed on vice presidential candidate and fought only to loose.
• The lesson they learnt is middle class population might be sizable in India but they are not the vote generators, after all BJP learnt it hard way in last election. So they want to associate with the population which votes and have short memory. This is an ideal opportunity to brainwash voters and create an impression that they are more pro poor and care for them than congress which is siding with the capitalist US by signing a nuclear deal..after all to a common man who can not understand what nuclear deal is..who might in a view that nuclear deal is all about some hi tech thing which wont generate roj ki roti...

But if we go back on a deal now India stands to loose both at home and outside..how is it we will see in next one.....

I deeply regret the audacity of the people who reacted to your article in a very offending manner. These are the people who exploit anonymity of modern day technology. None of these people would have responded this way if they have to face you in person.
The usage of bad language including the offending comments against your family members simply dissolves their point. These are the misguided people who don’t understand what Hinduism is? May be active supporters of radical political party which survives on hard-line hindutva. If they can not respect the women in their neighborhood and make offending comments against them they don’t even have a right to speak of Hinduism, it is a paradox that they got offended by this painting.

Though I strongly oppose those comments I can not agree with your justification of this eminent artist's controversial painting.

Hinduism is as such the Haindava dharma is based on a few principles laid centuries ago. Here respect for women stands tall.
A naked figure might not appease the soft and heavenly appearance of goddess Saraswati.
The way gods classified in Hinduism is rather bizarre looking from a western point of view. We have a well defined hierarchy like a corporate organization with very sternly defined roles. There are few Apsaras and Gandharvas which are high souls than human but not gods. The srungara bhangimas in Khjaraho or in kamasutra can not be simply attributed to gods rather they represent these Apsaras.

We can not compare the Famous David statue by Michael Angelo to this scenario. In the first place we don’t know how contemporary people reacted to that at that point of time.
More over the European renaissance period art culture is all the same in expression of nakedness that no one really gets offended. In the European culture angels are those who wore nothing unlike Indian culture where dress code is very much visible.

In a democracy like India everyone has freedom of expression at the same time every one has right to question this as well. Can you imagine this painter drawing picture that resembles his mother in this fashion? That hurts isn't it? So does this painting. The painter in question is more famous because of his modern art and for the price tag on each of his artifacts. This kind of a controversy raises his price tag by many folds, that’s the only intention I can see behind this. To cope up with the competition this can be seen as a publicity stunt.
An angry agitation by public will not really address the problem, rather he should be sued for defaming the godess and bring to justice in a court.

Indo-US Nuclear deal - Perspective of an ex-nuclear scientist

Indo-US Nuclear deal, an ambitious news item for more than year. Is it really worth this media attention, Is it really a win-win situation for India and US, Should India accept this deal at all, If India wants to clinch a deal under what circumstances?

How this deal could be a Win situation for US
- It has a great economical potential, will create a great deal of opportunity for US nuclear industry which is in stagnation state
- It can be shown as look east policy of Bush administration
- Strategically getting closer to India than Russia
- May be considering the possibility of using India against China once India joins the Big brother’s wagon

India's nuclear history
- Under the esteemed guidance of Homi Baba, India has a vision for 3 phased Nuclear system
- India doesn’t have much of a Uranium reserves, it can not run the way west operates their nuclear reactors with light water. So India has gone for Heavy water reactors where there is no need for enrichment. This is the first Phase, which we achieved around a 3 decades before.
- We are running in Phase 2 where Advance Heavy water reactors(AHWR) under operation, With a higher capacity than the Phase-1
- Final Phase is FBR (fast breeder reactor), whose prototype is proven and a new public enterprise is started for commercial operation of FBR. The project is under progress in Kalpakkam.
- FBR is a beautiful technology which breeds fuel while consuming it, Uses Thorium as bed and converts that in to fissionable material which can be used in AHWR. This will effectively solve the problem of less availability of uranium in India.

How will this deal be a WIN situation for India?
- Though FBR is a very ambitious project, not much is proved in nuclear circle outside India. We might become pioneers of this technology if we succeed. But if not, many of our current reactors and those under construction may face severe shortage of fuel and may face total shutdown. This deal will provide them assured access to International Uranium market to buy fuel.
- India's electricity growth is not in tandem with that of Economy. India has 40% power deficiency. Some of the industry's sluggish growth is directly attributed to power crisis. This deal will boost the Indian Power sector and we can expect a lot of foreign investment in constructing new nuclear reactors.

Why this discussion then?
The way Us want this deal to be is the basic problem behind it.
- Instead of looking at these points USA is still looking at India as it was in nascent Independence state. It is trying to find a frame work which can be used later in the future for other countries which have a very strong Proliferation record. It is restricting Indian Scientific community and imposing sanction on their research. It is linking the deal to future nuclear tests and not allowing India to process the spent fuel.

What If we agree to USA conditions?
- Probably we can close the nuclear research center in BARC and become part of Banana republic.

What do I suggest?
- Listen to the scientific community before clinching the deal, a final draft should be amiable to the Scientists who are working in BARC. If we are barred from testing and our neighboring state tests the new technology it bought from our other neighbors, our national security would be at stake.
- We should agree for a deal only if USA looks at India as the super power of 21st century and don’t link it with other rogue nations around.
- A deal should materialize only if all the clauses referring to nuclear tests and spent fuel rights are completely removed from the deal papers.
